VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team ended the regular season in style, closing out a 5-2 victory over South Dakota on Sunday afternoon from Vermillion.
With the win, UND (9-9, 4-2 Summit League) has secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Summit League Tennis Championships in Denver and will most likely battle Kansas City in the semifinal on April 30.
In doubles action, the Fighting Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a pair of wins on the bottom courts.
Allie Ochotorena and
Nina Zdravkovic started it off with a 6-2 victory at the second position before
Kaede Amano and
Isa Sullivan broke a 1-1 tie with a 6-3 triumph on the No. 3 court to give the visitors the early advantage.
After USD tied the match at one in singles play,
Andrea Jansson restored the lead for the green and white with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at the third spot before Zdravkovic extended the advantage to 3-1 with a 7-5, 6-4 win of her own at the No. 5 court.
Sapir Sela battled to seal the clinch for the Hawks with a 7-6, 7-5 victory from the top position and
Isa Sullivan added the finishing touches with a 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 triumph at the bottom court.
North Dakota will now await its postseason opponent from the league.
