South Dakota State Ekes by North Dakota in Double Overtime

BROOKINGS, S.D. - North Dakota (5-6 Summit) turned in one of the season's best defensive efforts, holding South Dakota State goalless for 104 minutes, when Eden Brooker broke the shutout to lift the Jackrabbits (9-0-4 Summit) over the Fighting Hawks, 1-0. With 21 goals this season, SDSU is the second-best scoring team in The Summit League.

North Dakota defended spectacularly in the opening half, protecting keeper Madi Livingston from any dangerous shots on goal. Of the four SDSU shots in the half, only one went on target, which Livingston punched over the crossbar for an ensuing Jacks corner kick that UND cleared out.

North Dakota took a crack at goal in the 26th minute after Adalaide Kline fouled just outside of South Dakota State's 18-yard box. Former Dutch Youth National Team player Daisy de Boer threaded a well-weighted line-drive shot to the far post that just missed the chest of a charging UND attacker, awarding SDSU a goal kick.

After an injury stoppage, the Fighting Hawks were the only team to put a shot on target as reigning Summit League Offensive Player of the Week Megan Wright tested SDSU keeper Taylor Lock, but she made the stop in the 36th minute.

While UND absorbed the Jackrabbits' pressure in the first 20 minutes of the second half, the Hawks began to shift momentum back in their favor by pressing at the midfield and maintaining possession on their attacking end and into the final third.

North Dakota methodically moved towards the goal and created a chance in transition in the 76th minute as Karly Sandoval snuck past her defender and into the 18-yard box from the end line. A fingertip save from Jocelyn Tanner kept the ball out of the far post netting.

The momentum continued in overtime as the Fighting Hawks as Mara Yapello put one last shot on target for the University of North Dakota, which Tanner stopped 32 seconds into the first overtime. UND controlled the pace in overtime and the overall run of play, but Brooker snuck past the defense on a pass by Kayla Wisniewski four minutes into the second overtime to break the shutout.

In her third appearance and first start of the season, de Boer took two shots, both in regulation, to lead the Fighting Hawks. Livingston closed the match with three saves.

UND and SDSU will close the series on Sunday, March 4, kicking off at 1 p.m. Central at Fishback Soccer Park.
