GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Featuring 13 home matches, a full 18-match Summit League slate and non-conference trips to Utah State, Weber State, Central Michigan and Bradley, the University of North Dakota volleyball program announced its 2021 Fall Schedule just 38 days ahead of its exhibition match at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center on Aug. 21 versus Bemidji State. Admission to the exhibition match will be free to the public.
Â
The schedule will feature two NCAA Tournament teams in Weber State (Aug. 28) and South Dakota (Oct. 11, Nov. 18). The Fighting Hawks will also host the 10th annual UND Classic Sept. 10 and 11, hosting Drake, Green Bay and former Big Sky foe Montana.
Â
"Our non-conference schedule is going to be a great opportunity to see how quickly our team will come together before Summit League play. Going on the road and playing some tough opponents, including an NCAA tournament team, will help us address what's working and on what areas we need to improve," said Head Coach
Jeremiah Tiffin. "But I'm particularly excited for our home tournament. Renewing a Big Sky rivalry with Montana will be great for our fans. In addition, having two competitive matches with Midwest teams such as Drake and Green Bay will be a great chance to see some high-level volleyball again at The Betty."
Â
Following its 1 p.m. exhibition against the Beavers on Aug. 21, UND will open the regular season on the road at Utah State Aug. 27-28, taking on the Aggies, Seton Hall and the Weber State Wildcats in the Utah State Invitational.
Â
The third weekend of the season will mark this year's UND Classic, where the Fighting Hawks will take on the Bulldogs, Phoenix and Lady Griz. The 10th UND Classic will be the first of five home matches during the month of September for the UND volleyball program. North Dakota's first two Summit League matches of the 2021 season will be contested in Grand Forks when Oral Roberts (Sept. 23) and Kansas City (Sept. 25) come to The Betty.
Â
With the addition of St. Thomas to The Summit League in 2021-22, The League volleyball schedule will be played primarily on Thursdays and Saturdays with a select number of Monday matches as well. The Fighting Hawks will renew its in-state rivalry with North Dakota State on Saturday, Oct. 16 in Fargo at 7 p.m., at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse. UND will host the Bison at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. The Hawks will close the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. when it hosts South Dakota State.
