Hawks Pressure Governors to Earn Draw in Non-Con Finale

CLARKESVILLE, Tenn. - The University of North Dakota put in a physical 110 minute shift at Austin Peay (3-4-2) to close its non-conference schedule, scoring an equalizing goal in the 35th minute to draw with the Governors, 1-1.

North Dakota (2-5-1) earned its first draw of the season as it was called for 15 fouls to APU's 10. Madi Livingston accounted for five saves in the match.

It was a slow start for UND against Austin Peay as Haley Patterson scored her first goal of the season, cleaning up a loose ball in the box following a Livingston save from Alec Baumgardt's shot in the ninth minute.

With their backs against the wall, the Fighting Hawks continued to apply the pressure to Austin Peay's defense, working to break the unit down. Eventually the Govs backline could not absorb the pressure any longer as it put the ball in the back of its own net for an equalizing own goal with 10 minutes left in the opening half.

Though APU posted four shots in the second half to North Dakota's three, the Fighting Hawks had the upper hand in overtime with its four shots and three corner kick attempts.

In UND's first overtime period of the season, Bailey McNitt took the only shot on frame, placing the ball in the center of the target where goalkeeper Peyton Powell made the save in the 94th minute.

North Dakota's last crack on goal in the 108th minute ushered in the last corner kick attempt of the match for the Hawks as Hannah Olson fired the ball to upper right of the target, forcing Powell to dive to her left to deflect the shot past the end line.

The shot was Olson's only shot on frame as she accounted for six total attempts in 108 minutes of play. Defenders Mary Gasaway and Alyssa Prisock both played the full 110 minutes to protect Livingston, who also played a full shift.

North Dakota will open Summit League play next week when it hosts Kansas City on Friday, Oct. 1 at 3 p.m. Central.
