SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Kacie Borowicz was named to the Summit League Preseason First Team announced the Summit League on Tuesday. North Dakota was tabbed fourth in the annual Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll after ending last season with an overall record of 15-15 (.500) and conference record of 9-9 (.500).
South Dakota State was selected as the preseason favorite. They were followed by South Dakota and Oral Roberts who sit second and third respectively.
Borowicz, a senior from Roseau, Minn., ended last season as one of North Dakota's offensive leaders and the leader in the Summit League for points per game with an average of 19.4 and leader in free-throw percentage with a .957. She earned First Team All-Summit League after ending the season sitting second in the country (NCAA DI) for free throw percentage with a .957, breaking the conference all-games free-throws made record and North Dakota record for most free-throws made in a game with her 20-for-20 against Montana State. Along with breaking those records, Borowicz broke the UND free-throw percentage record with her 1.000 (20-for-20) against Montana State.
Borowicz returns to the squad after garnering multiple Summit League accolades. She was named Summit League Player of the Week twice (Jan. 17 & Jan. 24), making her the third female Fighting Hawk to earn the honor since UND joined the Summit. She was also named Summit League Female-Athlete of the Month in January and named to the Summit League Academic All-League Team. Her was highlighted by sitting second in the Summit League for assists with 4.4 per game, reaching a career single-game high twice with 33 points against Montana State (Nov. 20) and against Western Illinois (Jan. 13) and posting double figures in 25 of the 27 games she appeared in.
North Dakota hosts Northern State on Wednesday, Nov. 2 for an exhibition inside the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Fighting Hawks will officially kickoff the 2022-23 season on Monday, Nov. 7 against Detroit Mercy in Grand Forks, N.D.
