Fighting Hawks Fall to Mavericks 3-0

OMAHA, Neb. - North Dakota lost to Omaha 3-0 on Thursday night at Baxter Arena. 
 
The Fighting Hawks came out ready for a battle as they took an early 6-4 lead. The Mavericks continued to attack to tie it at 8-8 before the back-and-forth battle ensued as both teams sought to take a decisive lead. It was tied at 22-22, but it was UNO who came out on top and took the first set 25-22. In the second set, the Mavericks started the set with a 6-0 run before the Fighting Hawks scored their first point. UND tried to rally to catch up to UNO, but they were not able to as they fell 25-12. The final set saw North Dakota start off strong as they kept it close with both teams tied at four before Omaha found their rhythm to take a 10-5 lead. The Fighting Hawks were unable to catch up as the Mavericks won the final set 25-12 to win the match 3-0. 

Statistically, North Dakota kept it close in a few categories when compared to Omaha. The Fighting Hawks had 31 points to the Mavericks 51. UND had 24 kills, one ace, five blocks, 22 assists and 42 digs compared to UNO's 39 kills, four aces, eight blocks, 37 assists and 47 digs.

The Fighting Hawks continue the road trip as they head to Denver to face the Pioneers at 2 p.m. (CT) on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Postgame Notes
  • North Dakota is now 8-10 on the season and 5-2 in the Summit League. 
  • Omaha holds the series lead 13-51.
  • Elizabeth Norris and Ashlyn Olson led the Fighting Hawks with 7.5 points each. Norris and Olson both had seven kills and a block. Norris had four assists and six digs. Olson had two digs. 
  • Paige Barber had five kills and a block against UNO. She ended the night with 5.5 points. 
  • Sierra Ward added 4.5 points with four kills and a block. 
  • Marissa Stockman had three blocks to end the night with 2.5 points. 
  • Kortney Carney led the defense with 14 digs, and she was followed by Peyton Sewell who had ten.
