No. 69 Denver holds off North Dakota

DENVER, Colo. -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team fell, 6-1, to No. 69 Denver on Sunday afternoon from the Denver Tennis Park in the Mile High City.

UND drops to 10-7 overall and 2-1 in Summit League play, sitting in fourth with two conference matches remaining before the postseason begins in late April.

The Fighting Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the road thanks to doubles play. Gerhard Sullwald and Nikita Snezhko grabbed a 6-2 win on the top court before Cian McDonnell and Edmond Aynedjian battled to a 7-5 victory at the No. 2 position to seal the early start.

DU showed why it is one of the top programs in the nation in singles play, however, claiming all six matches in straight sets to capture the 6-1 victory.

North Dakota returns to action next Thursday with a showdown against IUPUI in Indianapolis.
