GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota fell to Omaha 11-2 in the final game of the series on Sunday. The second inning was the difference maker as the Mavericks posted six runs against the Fighting Hawks to give them an early lead.
Jannay Jones kicked things off in the circle. In her 1.1 frames of work, she allowed five hits and four runs.
Morgan McConnell stepped into pitch for the Fighting Hawks. She allowed one hit and three runs before
Lauren Feld stepped in on relief. Feld closed of the game by allowing seven hits and four runs.
The scoring began early as the Mavericks took a 2-0 lead at the top of the first. The Fighting Hawks responded at the bottom of the second.
Madi Moore singled to place her on.
Chevelle Sartin was walked by the pitcher to advance the runners into scoring position.
Cassie Castaneda stepped up to the plate and doubled to left field to bring in Moore and make it 2-1.
Madison Pederson stepped up and hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Sartin and tie the game (2-2).
In the second inning, the top of the order for the Mavericks caused the damage. They scored six runs to retake the lead (8-2). The Fighting Hawks battled, but they were unable to put a dent in the deficit as Omaha won 11-2.
Moore and Castaneda had the lone two hits for the Fighting Hawks. Castaneda had an RBI along with
Madison Pederson.
The Fighting Hawks return to action for a doubleheader against Mayville State at 3 PM at Apollo Sports Complex.
