Hawks Fall to the Coyotes in the Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 VERMILLION, S.D. – The University of North Dakota fell to the University of South Dakota twice on Friday afternoon. The Fighting Hawks fell 8-0 in the first game, and they fell 21-2 in the second game that lasted five innings.
 
Game 1: North Dakota 0, South Dakota 8
The Coyotes scored in the first inning to place them in the lead to kick things off in Vermillion. They continued to extend the lead as the fourth, fifth and seventh innings saw two runs each to secure the 8-0 victory against the Fighting Hawks.

Jannay Jones started in the circle for North Dakota. She ended the game with 3.2 frames of work. In those frames, Jones allowed six hits and four runs. Lauren Feld stepped in on relief for Jones. She pitched 3.1 innings. In those innings, she allowed six hits and four runs.

The Fighting Hawks had four hits in the contest. Madi Moore had a pair of hits as she singled in the bottom of the first and singled at the bottom of the fifth. Chevelle Sartin doubled at the bottom of the first to earn a hit for UND. Alyssa Rios also picked up a double in the bottom of the fifth for a hit. Although they battled, the Fighting Hawks were unable to crack the scoreboard and fell 8-0 to the Coyotes.
 
Game 2: North Dakota 2, South Dakota 21
The first inning was tough for the Fighting Hawks as the Coyotes took an early 5-0 lead in the second game of the day. North Dakota was unable to adjust as South Dakota never looked back in the 21-2 victory.

Jackie Albrecht started on the mound for the Fighting Hawks. She pitched 1.0 innings for North Dakota while allowing four hits and eight runs. Morgan McConnell stepped into for relief for Albrecht. She allowed 11 hits and 13 runs for the afternoon while striking out three.

The Fighting Hawks battled the Coyotes in the second inning. Morgan Flann reached on an error by the Coyotes shortstop. Mariah Peters was next to bat as she was walked by the pitcher to place her on first and move Flann to second. Izzy Haslett stepped up to the plate and reached on an error by the right fielder to second base as Peters and Flann scored the singular pair of runs in the contest for UND. North Dakota was unable to catch-up to the Coyotes as they fell 21-2.

The Fighting Hawks return to action tomorrow in game three of the series against the Coyotes. The game is set to begin at 11 AM in Vermillion, S.D.
