Box Score BROOKINGS, S.D. – The University of North Dakota fell to North Dakota State University 5-2 in the first round of the Summit League Championship on Thursday afternoon. NDSU's three-run homerun in the third inning sealed the victory.
Jannay Jones pitched 2.0 innings against the Bison. During her frames of work, she allowed two hits and four runs.
Jackie Albrecht stepped in for Jones. In her 4.0 frames of work, Albrecht allowed two hits and a lone run while striking out five Bison batters.
The Fighting Hawks had five hits throughout the game.
Chevelle Sartin singled at the top of the third to earn the first hit of the contest.
Cassie Castaneda earned a double shortly after Sartin to advance the Hawks into scoring position, but they were unable to capitalize on the threat.
Jagger Datan singled through the left side to start the fourth inning as she picked up UND's third hit. The fourth hit came from
Liz Feld seconds later as she singled to right field to place the Fighting Hawks in scoring position.
Jocelyn Kirk doubled to left field shortly after to pick up the fifth hit and bring in
Liz Feld for a run as UND battled to stay in the game down 4-1. NDSU scored at the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-1.
Innings five and six remained scoreless as both teams battled. In the top of the seventh inning, North Dakota's lead off hitter
Lauren Feld doubled to right center as they added their sixth hit.
Morgan Flann stepped in as a pinch runner for La. Feld. Castaneda stepped up to the plate and doubled once again for an RBI single and to earn the seventh hit for UND. UND was unable to complete the comeback as NDSU secured the 5-2 victory to end the Fighting Hawks season.
