BROOKINGS, S.D. – The University of North Dakota fell to South Dakota State University 6-1 in the final game of the regular season. Two runs in the sixth sealed the victory as North Dakota tried to make a comeback with a lone run in the top of the sixth.
Jannay Jones pitched another full game against the Jackrabbits. During her 6.0 frames of work, she allowed ten hits and six runs in the loss.
The Fighting Hawks had five hits in the contest.
Lauren Feld picked up the first hit for North Dakota with a single to center field in the top of the second, but North Dakota was unable to capitalize.
Madi Moore secured the second hit for the Fighting Hawks with a single to short stop at the top of the third, but the Jackrabbits were able to earn three outs to keep UND at zero.
Chevelle Sartin earned the third hit with a single to left field at the top of the sixth, but it was Feld who earned the RBI single as she hit another one to centerfield and brought
Jocelyn Kirk in. The final hit was a double by
Jagger Datan at the top of the seventh as UND continued to battle, but they were unable to score yet again as SDSU secured the 6-1 victory.
The Fighting Hawks await the results of the Omaha and Western Illinois series. If Western Illinois does not win a game against Omaha then the Fighting Hawks will compete in the Summit League tournament that begins Wednesday in Brookings.
