North Dakota Ties with Wyoming 1-1

LARAMIE, Wyo. – The University of North Dakota soccer team tied (1-1) against the Wyoming Cowgirls on Sunday afternoon in Laramie.

The Cowgirls were the first on the board with a goal in the first half. North Dakota battled, and Mary Gasaway scored her first goal as a Fighting Hawk in the 72nd minute to tie the game at one. Gasaway's goal was off a flip throw that bounced over the keeper and in.

Wyoming placed pressure on North Dakota early with nine shots, four corners and one goal in the first half. UND tried to match the intensity with four shots and two corners. Madi Livingston had four saves in the first half to keep the deficit at one.

The Fighting Hawks exited the half ready to attack the Cowgirls as they added eight shots to end the day with 12. Wyoming only had four shots in the second half to end the day with 13. Livingston had two more saves as she helped her team secure the tie.

The match was physical from the start as the teams ended the game with 19 combined fouls. A singular yellow card was awarded in the contest to Wyoming.

  • 33:42 – WYO | Jazi Barela shot the ball to the upper left corner to make it 1-0. She did not have anyone assist on the goal.
 Second Half
  • 72:56 – UND | Mary Gasaway takes the throw in for the Fighting Hawks. She does a flip throw, which lands in the center of the box, bounces over the keeper and into the net to make it 1-1.
