HILLSBORO, Ore. – North Dakota soccer remained scoreless and kept Portland State scoreless for a 0-0 tie on Sunday afternoon.
It was a tight battle as both teams tried to get on the board first. In the first half, neither team was able to score. The Fighting Hawks had only two shots in the half while the Vikings had 12. Although both teams tried to break through with a goal, the goalkeepers kept it at zeros heading into the half. UND had five saves while PSU had one.
The second half witnessed attacks from both teams as North Dakota added four shots and Portland State added ten. The keepers matched each other as they both had two saves for their teams to keep it scoreless after 90 minutes.
The Fighting Hawks ended the match with six shots, seven saves and one corner compared to the Vikings 22 shots, three saves and seven corners.
The match was physical from the start as the teams ended the game with 21 combined fouls. Each team received yellow cards for their physicality. UND had three while PSU had four.
Postgame Notes
- North Dakota moves to 2-4-2 on the season. The two ties this season have happened in regulation as the rules have been changed to remove overtime unless it is a post season match.
- Madi Livingston ended the afternoon with seven saves to help her team to a tie and secure the shutout. This is Livingston's third shutout of the season. One of the three was a combined shutout with Abby Ellenberger.
- This marked the seventh time that the teams had played each other. This has been the first tie in their histories as PSU sits as the series leader at 5-1-2.
- Portland State finished with a 22-6 shot advantage, including 7-3 on goal.
- This marks the second regular season tie of the year for the Fighting Hawks.
