ITTA BENA, Miss. – The University of North Dakota soccer team started the weekend in style, defeating Mississippi Valley State, 1-0, on Friday evening.
Irene Jirasevijinda scored her second career goal in the 74
th minute while
Madi Livingston turned away all five shots fired her way in net to secure the victory for the Fighting Hawks (1-0).
UND had offensive attempts early as they finished the first half with three corner kicks and twelve shots while Mississippi Valley State responded with here shots.
The pressure continued in the second half as the two teams sought the crack the scoreboard. It was North Dakota who struck first with a goal to make it 1-0. UND added eight corners and 19 shots in their pursuit to earn the victory. The defense did not allow a single corner and gave MVSU only one shot in the second half.
Both sides ramped up the physical play as there were a combined 25 fouls between the squads. Six yellow cards were awarded during the match with three going to each team.

- Irene Jirasevijinda scored the lone goal of the match, her second as a Fighting Hawk. Both of her career goals have been scored in the 2022 season. This is her first against a Division I opponent.
