North Dakota Defeats Western Illinois 1-0

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota soccer team beat Western Illinois 1-0 in their first conference game at Bronson Field this season.

Hannah Olson scored the lone goal of the match in the 75th minute while Madi Livingston turned away the three shots fired her way to secure the victory for the Fighting Hawks (1-0).
UND had offensive attempts early as they finished the first half with six corner kicks and five shots while WIU responded with four shots.

The pressure continued in the second half as the Fighting Hawks added 13 shots while the Leathernecks added four as they both searched for the first goal of the match. A long pass from Sarah McCracken found itself in the feet of Hannah Olson as she sent it past the WIU goalkeeper to notch the lone goal of the game and secure the 1-0 victory for the host.

Both sides ramped up the physical play, with the contest seeing a combined 15 fouls. Neither team was awarded a card in the contest.
