Alyssa Giupponi signs with Fighting Hawks

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- University of North Dakota head women's tennis coach Tom Boysen announced on Monday that Alyssa Giupponi has signed a National Letter of Intent to play tennis for the Fighting Hawks beginning next season.

"Alyssa will come to Grand Forks next fall having a ton of international experience already in hand," said Boysen. "She has competed at numerous high-level events in Switzerland and across Europe. She uses her athleticism well to construct points, and she is comfortable hitting a wide variety of shots to set up her strengths. We are thrilled to welcome her to the Grand Forks and UND community."

Giupponi holds a 7.7 rating from UTR who has competed at both the Switzerland and inter-country championships over the last few years. The Bex, Switzerland, native has also appeared in multiple ITF junior events.

"The first thing that led me to choose UND was that I had a great feeling during the calls with Coach Boysen," said Giupponi. "The tennis program seems to be very interesting and match with what I was looking for. So, I started to search more information about the university, watching videos, looking on different kinds of social media. It looks a little bit like Switzerland, and I saw that it's very dynamic with all different kinds of sports, and so it made me want to come. During the recruiting process, UND was really my favorite."

The Fighting Hawks are coming off one of their best seasons since moving to Division I, reaching the Summit League Championship match for the first time. UND also crossed the double-digit mark in wins with 11 and notched a 5-2 mark in league play.
