GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The North Dakota men's basketball team heads out on its final road trip of the nonconference slate this week, as the team takes on Utah Tech in St. George, Utah on Saturday night. This will be the fourth straight season with a matchup of the two teams.

North Dakota begins their final road trip of the nonconference season Saturday, taking on Utah Tech in St. George, Utah.
Series History vs. the Trailblazers
The two teams have met three times previously, with each meeting coming in the last three seasons. The first meeting was on Dec. 2, 2020 in St. George—the Trailblazers won 74-73. The most recent meeting was Nov. 25 last season, the Fighting Hawks won 67-52 in Grand Forks.
Scouting the Opponent
The Trailblazers are led by longtime coach Jon Judkins, who has won 325 games for Utah Tech and over 600 in his career. This season, UTU is averaging 69.9 points per game and allowing 72.4 per game. As a team they are shooting .441 from the field, .372 from three point range and .680 from the free throw line.
Tanner Christensen leads the team in points per game with 12.8 and rebounds with 7.4 per game. Five players average double figures—Christensen, David Elliott (11.8), Beon Riley (11.1), Noa Gonsalves (10.5), and Aric Demings (10.2). Demings leads the team with 34 assists while Gonsalves leads with 13 steals and Christensen leads with 13 blocks.
Living Downtown
Last season the team broke the program record for three pointers made in a single game with 18 against Kansas City, breaking the record set on December 14, 2021 against North Central University.
North Dakota has hit at least one triple in every game dating back to Mar. 1, 2018. The last time the Hawks did not make a three came on Feb. 24, 2018, when UND went 0-for-8 from downtown at Northern Colorado in a 79-66 loss. North Dakota has hit at least one three in each of the last 168 games played.

Last Season
North Dakota finished the 2022-23 campaign with a 13-20 record, a seven win improvement over 2021-22. The Fighting Hawks won their first Summit League Tournament game in three years with an 83-68 win over Denver in the first game of the tournament. The team won six of their last nine games, regular and postseason, last year.
