Box Score MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team capped off another perfect weekend with a 5-2 win over IUPUI on Saturday afternoon from the Elite Sports Club in Milwaukee, Wis.
With the win, UND improves to 10-0 to begin the season, extending the best start in the program's Division I history. The Fighting Hawks also broke the school's DI mark for longest winning streak, a record previously held by the 2019-20 team that won nine straight prior to the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown.
After dropping the doubles point for the first time all season in Friday's win over Marquette, UND bounced back on Saturday with a pair of wins on the No. 1 and 2 courts to take a 1-0 lead.
Edmond Aynedjian and
Cian McDonnell started it off with a 6-3 victory in the middle position before
Gerhard Sullwald and
Nikita Snezhko closed out the strong start with a 7-6 win on the No. 1 court.
Snezhko doubled the lead in the first result of singles play, notching a 6-1, 6-3 victory from the No. 4 court before his doubles partner Sullwald remained perfect in 1-on-1 play with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at the top spot to increase the advantage to 3-0.
After the Jaguars got on the board,
Riley Odell provided the clinching point with a pair of 6-3 scores from the No. 5 court before
Jayho Hong added the punctuation mark with a 6-3, 5-7, 10-7 victory on the bottom spot to seal the 5-2 win.
North Dakota returns to action with a pair of matches in DeKalb, Ill. against Youngstown State on Saturday morning before closing out the weekend with Northern Illinois next Sunday.
