Box Score GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota men's tennis team made quick work of St. Olaf on Saturday afternoon from Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D., rolling to a 7-0 win to improve its record start to 8-0 on the season.
After a pair of tough battles last weekend that resulted in a pair of victories over Creighton and No. 17 Gustavus Adolphus, North Dakota dropped only seven games in singles action in the win on Saturday to earn its third straight win at home.
In doubles action, 6-2 proved to be the magic score, as NoDak claimed the early 1-0 lead with a trio of victories all by the same score. The familiar duo of
Gerhard Sullwald and
Nikita Snezhko kept their perfect season rolling at the top court before
Drew Van Fossen and newcomer Jerall Yasin made his collegiate debut at the No. 2 doubles court.
Petro Alex and
Jayho Hong wrapped up the 1-0 start for the hosts once again at the bottom spot.
It was a near-blanking in the first set for each Fighting Hawk in singles action, with five of the six courts all earning the victory by a 6-0 score in the opening frame. Sullwald, who remains unbeaten in both singles and doubles play this season, was the lone exception with a pair of 6-1 victories at the No. 1 position.
Yasin and Van Fossen each picked up singles wins, with Yasin's being the first of his career in a UND uniform, both earning a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the No. 5 and 6 courts, respectively.
Riley Odell, Hong and Alex closed out the 7-0 victory for the Fighting Hawks on the middle courts, with the trio also each collecting wins by 6-1, 6-0 scores.
North Dakota hits the road for a pair of matches next week in Milwaukee, Wis. beginning with another BIG EAST foe Marquette on Friday at 6 p.m. before closing the weekend against IUPUI on Saturday at 2 p.m.
