Three Hawks Earn Indoor Academic All-Summit League Accolades

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Following impressive performances during this indoor season and in the classroom, Malene Kollberg, Natalie Mohring and Luke Labatte were named to the Indoor Academic All-Summit League Teams, the conference offices announced Wednesday afternoon.

In order to be named to the Indoor Academic All-Summit League Team, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), have completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and have competed in at least half of their team's competitions.

Kollberg headlined the academic team for UND and won the gold medal in the pentathlon at the Summit League Indoor Championships with a PR point total of 3,837 points. That total now ranks No. 2 in school history. Kollberg also tied the No. 2 long jump mark in school history in the pentathlon with a personal-best leap of 19-3 1/4 (5.87m). At the time of the jump, that mark tied the school record.

At the Summit League Indoor Championships, Kollberg was also fifth in the long jump (18-9 3/4, 5.73m), seventh in the high jump (5-3, 1.60m) and also ran a leg on the 4x400-meter relay (3:59.09) and took fourth. She has a GPA of 3.92 and is majoring in kinesiology.

Mohring gained All-Summit League accolades for the second consecutive year in the weight throw at the indoor conference championships, finishing with the bronze medal with a PR toss of 64-10 (19.76m), good for No. 3 in the event all-time at UND. Mohring carries a GPA of 3.84 and is majoring in psychology.

Labatte was the runner-up in the 3,000 meters at the Summit League Indoor Championships with a time of 8:12.47. His finish made him the top point scorer for the UND meet at the conference meet. During the regular season, Labatte broke the school records in the mile (4:06.11) and 3,000 meters (8:08.54). He has a GPA of 3.85 and is majoring in commercial aviation.
