AUSTIN, Texas/SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Members of the North Dakota steeple crew saw action at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic on Thursday afternoon, while
Elise Ulseth wrapped up heptathlon competition at the Texas Relays.
The steeple team showed out in California, with three Fighting Hawks making their mark on the UND top-10 list.
Justin Jelaca led the group in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking a PR of 9:03.40 to finish third. That time bettered his previous best by over 55 seconds and gave him the second-fastest steeplechase time in school history.
Eric Weiss joined Jelaca in the steeplechase and finished with a time of 9:30.70, moving him up to No. 6 in school history.
Less than an hour earlier,
Conny Wohlfahrt was the top Hawk on the women's side, placing eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:05.94. That time moved her onto the UND top-10 list in the event and was good for the fourth-fastest time in program history.
At the Texas Relays, Ulseth finished with 4,746 points in the heptathlon to get 16th. She made it through six of the seven events.
Coming into the day, Ulseth had 3,226 points and built the total up to 4,060 points after the long jump Thursday morning. In the heptathlon long jump, Ulseth finished with the fourth-best mark of the morning with a leap of 19-6 1/4 (5.95m). Two hours later, Ulseth recorded the top mark in the javelin with a throw of 134-4 (40.96m), which moved her up to eighth with 4,746 points before bowing out of the competition.
North Dakota will now split up for the two California meets, resuming competition at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic on Friday while also commencing events at the Stanford Invitational. Live Results for all meets can be found on
