LINCOLN, Neb. -- The University of North Dakota men's golf team opened up the 2023 Summit League Men's Golf Championships from Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln, Neb. on Sunday.
UND closes the first day of a three-day, three-round event with a team score of 312 to sit in seventh place at +28. The Fighting Hawks are right in the middle of a packed leaderboard, with the green and white only 11 shots out of the top spot held currently by Kansas City.
Erik Stoxen led the way among individuals for NoDak through the first 18 holes, finishing with a 75 to tie for sixth at +5. The sophomore sank a pair of birdies on the par-4 first hole and the par-5 ninth to go alongside his 10 pars.
Alex Skarperud finished right behind his teammate with a 76 to sit just outside the top-10 at 11th at +5. The Fargo, N.D., native also drained a pair of birdies, as the duo combined for four of the six shot by UND on the day.
Brandon McGarry was the third Fighting Hawk to finish with a sub-80 score to finish tied for 29th with a 79 (+8) while
Lucas Feterl and
Grayson Wetch rounded out the scoring with a 82 (+11) and 83 (+12), respectively.
North Dakota will begin the second day of action at 9:20 a.m. on Monday.
