TEMPE, Ariz. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team as honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as part of the organization's 2023 Division I Women's ITA Scholar-Athletes and All-Academic Teams, as announced on Tuesday. 

Within the sport of tennis, student-athletes continue to exceed expectations in the classroom and on the court. In 2023, 1,513 Division I Women's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 234 women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.

UND saw a whopping eight student-athletes earn ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, sitting tied with Kansas City and just one behind Omaha for the most by a Summit League women's tennis program. The eight selections are the most for the UND women's tennis team since moving to Division I, with Nore Heinitz, Andrea Jansson, Nyah Kauders, Lucia Rizza, Jule Schulte, Sapir Sela, Mara VanNyhuis and Killeen Wareham all earning the distinction. 

As a team, North Dakota was honored as an ITA All-Academic Team after posting a 3.674 GPA during the 2022-23 academic year -- a mark that included a tetrad of perfect 4.0's by NoDak student-athletes. 

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must meet the following requirements:

• Have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year
• Be listed on the institutional eligibility form

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements:

• Have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale),
• All student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and
• All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year
