GRAND FORKS, N.D.—The University of North Dakota soccer team ended exhibition play with a 4-1 win over the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday afternoon from Bronson Field.
Amelia Loeffler was the story of the match, recording a hat-trick. She led the team in both shots (5) and shots on goal (4).
The Bisons struck early, finding the back of the net in the third minute when Nicole Davis scored an unassisted goal from the top of the box. Loeffler netted the equalizer in the 20th minute, scoring off assists from
Allison Rapaduski and
Julia Briggs.
In the 22nd minute, Loeffler scored what would be the game-winner when
Milan Cordone had a nice feed from 15 yards out. North Dakota headed into the break with a 2-1 edge on the scoreboard.
The Hawks came out firing in the second half and quickly added another goal in the 47th minute, when Loeffler found the back of the net for the third and final time of the match. That goal was unassisted, and she struck from just over 20 yards out.
Reece Vorachek put the game out of reach for Manitoba in the 71st minute, burying the goal after a pass from
Paula Moreno Diaz.
The Bisons attempted only five shots in the match, with three of them being shots on goal. After their lone goal of the game in the third minute, the Fighting Hawks only allowed two shots on goal in the final 87 minutes of play. Comparatively, UND put down 16 total shots and 10 shots on goal.
Madi Livingston was in net for NoDak and recorded two saves in just over 68 minutes.
Annika Franz saw reserve action at keeper and was in for the final 22 minutes of the contest.
North Dakota will open regular season play against Montana on Thursday. Kickoff between the Fighting Hawks and Grizzlies is slated for 3 p.m., with the game airing on The Summit League Network.
