NORMAL, Ill. -- The University of North Dakota soccer team opened up its road slate in style, cruising to a 3-0 win over Illinois State on Thursday evening from Adelaide Street Field in Normal, Ill.
UND (2-2-1) threatened early-and-often in the contest, nearly jumping on the board in the 16th minute, as
Mary Gasaway launched a shot that ricocheted off the post and remained out to keep the game scoreless. Moments later,
Madi Livingston came up with her best save of the opening 45 minutes on the only real threat allowed by the NoDak defense in the 17th minute, as Livingston made what ended up being the only save of the first half by either keeper.
The Fighting Hawks kept building towards an offensive breakthrough until
Amelia Loeffler finished off a great ball from
Irene Jirasevijinda in the 36th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead on Loeffler's first goal of the season and third of her career to take the advantage into the halftime break.
Coming out of the intermission UND didn't slow down, as Loeffler again found herself free on the back post and converted her second of the night off a feed from
Evelyn Pazienza to quickly double the lead in the 50th minute. It marks the first time in Loeffler's career that she has potted multiple goals in a game and is the first player since
Hannah Olson on Oct. 31, 2021 at Western Illinois to accomplish the feat.
North Dakota didn't give the hosts any chance to climb back into the game, consistently owning the possession and pushing the ball into the attacking third of the field.
Sofia Desirello made a great run and was hauled down by the keeper in the box to earn a penalty for UND in the 79th minute, where
Allison Tschetter blasted it into the net for the first goal of her career and extended the lead to 3-0 with just over 10 minutes to play.
Livingston, who only saw one shot in the first half, was busier in the second half with five saves on five attempts. The graduate student made her best stops of the night just after the third NoDak goal, turning aside back-to-back chances from right in front of the goal to preserve her second shutout of the season and 13th of her career to close out the 3-0 win.
North Dakota will look to make it a perfect road trip on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Southern Indiana.
