EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of North Dakota soccer team closed out a perfect weekend with a 2-0 win over Southern Indiana on Sunday afternoon from Strassweg Field in Evansville, Ind.
With the win, UND runs its unbeaten streak to four straight matches and improves its record to 3-2-1 overall. It also marks the first 2-0-0 start away from Grand Forks for the program since 2018 and only the second time since moving to Division I in 2008.
Amelia Loeffler continued her torrid weekend with a goal and an assist to cap her pair of games with seven points on a trio of tallies and a helper while
Evelyn Pazienza scored her first goal in a collegiate uniform to seal the victory.
Madi Livingston also concluded a perfect weekend in net, as the graduate student stopped all six shots fired her way to record her second straight shutout and third in the last four games. The Centennial, Colo., native also moves into a tie for first all-time in program history for career shutouts with 14 -- matching her with Catherine Klein (2016-19).
On a hot day, both sides took its time to get settled in offensively, with the teams combining for only five shot attempts in the first 22 minutes. However, UND jumped into the attack coming out of the hydration break when
Paula Moreno Diaz and Loeffler combined for a run down the attacking third before Loeffler laid it into the middle for Pazienza to deposit her first-career goal and give the Fighting Hawks a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute.
The goal marks points in back-to-back games for Pazienza and was the second assist of the season for Moreno Diaz to match her total from her rookie campaign.
Southern Indiana pushed to level the match as the first half wore on, but Livingston was up to the task with five saves in the opening 45 minutes. Her best stop came in the dying moments of the frame, leaping to her left to deny a shot labeled for the top corner to keep the visitors in front, 1-0, heading into the intermission.
UND's defense was strong in the second half and held the Screaming Eagles to just one shot on goal before Loeffler polished off the unbeaten weekend with a beautiful chip over the goalkeeper in the final minute of regulation for her third tally in the last two games to give the green and white the 2-0 victory.
North Dakota returns home to begin a run of six straight at Bronson Field next Thursday against former Big Sky Conference foe Northern Colorado at 3 p.m. Fans can catch the action on the Summit League Network.
