BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The University of North Dakota women's golf team concluded its second tournament of the 2023-24 season, capturing both the team and individual titles at the Tracy Lane Memorial Golf Tournament, hosted by Bemidji State, at the Bemidji Town & Country Club.
UND held off a late charge from Minnesota State in the final round to claim the team title by a single stroke with a final score of +55 in the 36-hole event. The Fighting Hawks put together a strong opening round of +18 to build a five-shot lead heading into Tuesday, where the green and white still posted the second-best round of the day to close out the victory.
Emersyn Walker also claimed her first individual title of her collegiate career, finishing with a 36-hole score of 154 (+10) to win the crown by two strokes. The sophomore also just missed her personal best 36-hole event and 18-hole scores, which she posted last season at the NDSU Fall Invitational. Walker notched a trio of birdies to finish her opening round with a 73, the best individual 18-hole score of the tournament, before closing out the event with an 81 to win the title.
Joy Callinan also finished in the top-5 and two shots off of Walker's score with a 157 (+13) to place in a tie for fourth to record her best 36-hole event score of her career and her first top-10 finish of her career. The senior was consistent throughout the event, opening with a 79 and closing with a 78 while notching a birdie on the par-4 17th on both days.
Lily Bredemeier bounced back from a tough opening round to card a 77 on Tuesday thanks to a trio of birdies to notch another top-10 finish with a 160 (+16) to tie for eighth while freshman
Kylie Warner joined her teammate in the tie for eighth to record the fourth top-10 finish by a Fighting Hawk at the event and round out the scoring.
Fellow rookie
Gigi Lund became the fifth Fighting Hawk to finish among the top-10 on the leaderboard with a 161 (+17) while
Kalai Hamlin (167, +23) and
Carrie Carpenter (168, +24) placed tied for 18th and 20th, respectively.
North Dakota will enjoy a few weeks off before returning to action at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, hosted by Seattle, at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club on Oct. 2-3.
