Wyoming holds off North Dakota, 2-1

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota soccer team fell, 2-1, on Thursday afternoon to Wyoming from Bronson Field in Grand Forks, N.D.

UND (3-4-2) fell behind by a 2-0 score early in the second half before cutting the deficit to one and nearly coming up with the equalizer, but the Cowgirls (4-2-3) cleared a pair of corners from the Fighting Hawks in closing seconds to hold on for the victory.

Evelyn Pazienza notched her second goal of the season in the 79th minute, heading in a long throw-in from Mary Gasaway to get the hosts on the board while Madi Livingston finished with seven saves on nine shots against in a losing effort.

North Dakota nearly jumped out to an early lead, putting pressure on the Wyoming defense and earning three straight corners. The Fighting Hawks connected on multiple attempts, including a great chance for Irene Jirasevijinda, but could not find the back of the net.

The Cowgirls grabbed the 1-0 advantage in the 26th minute, with Alyssa Glover finishing off her fourth goal of the season on a nice passing play before adding her second goal of the game less than two minutes into the second half to double the lead.

UND upped the offensive attack following the second Wyoming goal and cut the deficit to one on Pazienza's strike, but the hosts could not complete the comeback as the Cowgirls held on for the 2-1 win.
