Fighting Hawks edged by Roos after early two goal lead

KANSAS CITY, MO – The North Dakota Fighting Hawks fell to the Kansas City Roos, 3-2, in their final conference road matchup on Sunday afternoon. Early first-half goals by UND were not enough to secure the win, as the Roos rallied in the second half.

Sophomore Kaylie Fowler opened the scoring for the Fighting Hawks in the 15th minute, finding the back of the net with a shot from the top of the box. Fowler was assisted by Amelia Loeffler, who carried the ball up the right side of the field and set up the shot with the cross.

Just seven minutes later, Loeffler added her own goal, assisted by Morgan Huff, giving NoDak a 2-0 lead. The play started with a free kick at the center line; Huff crossed the ball to Loeffler at the top of the box, who then made a shot to the same spot Fowler had scored.

The Roos responded quickly in the second half, with Lily Stedman scoring in the 50th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Down by one, Kansas City's Adriana Benassi netted the equalizer just four minutes later in the 54th minute.

Kansas City seized the lead in the 72nd minute when Brianna Castleberry scored off assists from Stedman and Emery Ruliffson, sealing the victory for the Roos.

The Fighting Hawks will return to Bronson Field to host South Dakota on Thursday, October 17 at 3 p.m. The match will be available on the Summit League Network and Midco Sports.
