UND dropped a pair of matches last weekend losing a back-and-forth five-set contest at home to South Dakota on Thursday, before falling in four sets on the road at (RV) South Dakota State. The defeats moved the Hawks' overall record to 8-9. Against the Coyotes, in a match that combined for 23 tied scores and ten lead changes, UND set a season high in total attacks with 188, behind a career-high 44 from sohomore
Lauren Perugini, and a season high in block assists with 30. The squad's 15 total blocks matched its season-high effort against Chicago State in mid-September. Perugini (18 kills, 13 digs), junior defensive specialist
Izzie McCormick (26 digs) and senior middle blocker
Jarolin de los Santos Lugo (nine block assists) all notched career highs. In Brookings, the Hawks recorded more kills than the Jackrabbits (48-47), but committed 20 more attack errors with SDSU providing 14 blocks to just three for UND. Freshman
Vanessa Imoh recorded a career-high 10 kills as she hit north of .333 for the third time in five career matches.
The Hawks enter the middle of October 1-5 in Summit League play. UND is a win back of sixth-place Denver which sits at 2-3 overall and is currently in the final tournament spot. Thursday's trip to St. Thomas and playing host to North Dakota State on Tuesday will wrap up the first round of league action for the Hawks as ten Summit League matches remain in the regular season. UND will benefit from a weekend off which then leads directly into three home matches next week; its busiest stretch since non-conference play.Â
The Hawks have won the opening set in nine of its 17 matches winning five of those contests in addition to earning three wins after dropping the opening set. In 68 total sets played this season, UND has won 33. Of the 35 sets that the Hawks have fallen in, NoDak has seen seven go extra and 13 decided by just three points or less. Overall, UND is -15 in kills (805-820), +9 in aces (95-86), +31 in digs (922-891) and +14.5 in blocks (143.5-129.0). Â
