MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team fell, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon to Milwaukee at the River Glen Elite Tennis Center.
UND (1-5) found itself in a bit of an unfamiliar spot, trailing 1-0 after dropping the doubles point. The top pairing of
Sapir Sela and
Andrea Jansson notched a victory for the visitors by a 6-2 score, but the Panthers (2-1) nabbed two wins on the No. 2 and 3 courts to take the early advantage.
Sela kept that momentum rolling into singles play, bringing the score even at 1-1 with a pair of 6-1 victories at the No. 1 court before
Jule Schulte gave the Fighting Hawks a 2-1 lead with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at the third position.
The Panthers battled back, however, collecting three straight wins at the No. 2, 4 and 5 spots to clinch the overall match victory.
Lucia Rizza earned the third point of the afternoon for the visitors on the No. 6 court with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 triumph in a trio of sets to close the match at 4-3.
North Dakota will stay on the road for a pair of showdowns in Lincoln, Neb. next weekend beginning with Montana on Friday and closing with Nebraska on Saturday.
