GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- University of North Dakota head men's tennis coach Tom Boysen announced on Tuesday that Leo Galliano has signed his National Letter of Intent (NLI) to join the Fighting Hawks for the 2024-25 season.
"We are very excited to add a player of Leo's quality to our roster for next season," said Boysen. "He will no doubt instantly help our team as we look to build on the momentum we had in the final few weeks of the season in 2024."
Galliano comes to North Dakota following a strong junior career in his home nation of Switzerland, where he twice made the main draw and reached the quarterfinals of an international ITF junior tournament. In doubles action, Galliano also reached the quarterfinals in an ATP event last summer.
"To come to the USA's environment with a lot of positivity made it very exciting to choose UND," said Galliano. "I can be hard on myself a lot of times, so to be on a team is exciting. My coach, who advised me, told me that North Dakota is a great place for me and I couldn't be more excited to get to Grand Forks."
Galliano joins fellow incoming freshman Andrew Hayduke II as part of the signing class and will join a UND roster that is only expected to lose two players.
"Coach Anderson was in touch with Leo from the onset, and quickly identified him as a player we should target," said Boysen. "As I have gotten to know Leo through the process, I have been very impressed with his desire to improve and work hard. He is hungry to be part of a positive team environment, and I think he will be a valuable member of our men's tennis program and the Grand Forks community."
