GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota began the UND Open on Friday night with the rarely contested indoor discus throw and swept the event titles inside the Pollard Athletic Center.
Ethan Thomas won the men's discus with his opening throw with a mark of 166-5 (50.73m). Thomas threw from the end zone to the opposite side of the 50 on his opening throw. In football terms, he completed a 55-yard pass. Sean Erickson from Mary was the runner-up with a throw of 157-3 (47.94m).
For the fourth consecutive season,
Kenna Curry was victorious in the women's discus at the meet with a toss of 155-6 (47.40m).
Haidyn Skeen was the runner-up with a mark of 126-8 (38.62m), while
Justina Esangbedo took third with a throw of 125-9 (38.33m).
The meet will resume on Saturday with field events beginning at 11 a.m. and action on the track starting at 2 p.m.
