Keeler qualifies for nationals, UND records best finishes in school history

STILLWATER, Okla. – North Dakota recorded its best team finishes at the NCAA Midwest Regional in program history on Friday morning, while Jadyn Keeler qualified for the NCAA Championships.

Keeler scanned her ticket to the NCAA Cross Country Championships in the women's 6K with a fourth place finish, clocking a time of 19:53.7. Keeler's finish was the best a Fighting Hawk has ever placed at the NCAA Midwest Regional in school history.

The Barrie, Ontario, native ran in second for most of the first 2.9K before taking the lead at the 3K mark. She maintained the lead from the 3K spot to the 4.5K mark and then was in a battle the final 1.5K of the race.

With the help of Keeler's finish, UND placed eighth in the 6K at the meet with 289 points, giving the Fighting Hawks their best finish at the regional in program history. North Dakota beat out the Power 4 schools of Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas State and Kansas at the regional.

Shewaye Johnson was the next Fighting Hawk to cross the finish line in the 6K, finishing just two spots shy of USTFCCCA All-Region status and taking 27th in 21:07.8. Marie-Louise Jorgensen was the third UND runner to cross and was 79th in 22:05.1. Gabrielle Wahl finished less than seven seconds later and took 83rd in 22:11.9. Frida Giersdorff was the final Hawk to score points and took 100th with a time of 22:24.8. Katherine Rogers and Elle Sondag were the alternate point scorers and were 146th (22:57.7) and 161st (23:08.9), respectively.

The Fighting Hawk men also had their top team finish at the regional in UND history, finishing 13th in the 10K with 415 points. North Dakota finished quicker at the regional than the Power 4 teams of Iowa, Illinois, Kansas State and Nebraska.

Matej Hrebacka led UND's men and finished 41st with a time of 31:46.9. Louis-Lys Fanucchi, running in his first collegiate 10K, ran a time of 32:23.5 to take 62nd. Ian Busche ran a 10K personal-best time of 32:47.6 to finish 89th. Ethan Adams, also competing in his first collegiate 10K, was the fourth Hawk to cross the finish line and was 95th with a time of 32:55.2. Niko Angell clocked a time of 33:37.8 to finish 129th as the final point scorer for UND. Henrik Lindstrot was 144th in 33:57.1, while Aleksa Milanovic was the final alternate point scorer and took 145th with a time of 33:58.2.

Keeler will conclude North Dakota's cross country season at the NCAA Championships in Columbia, Mo., on Saturday, Nov. 22.

* Jadyn Keeler placed fourth in the 6K at the NCAA Midwest Regional and scanned her ticket to the NCAA Championships with a time of 19:53.7. The fourth-place finish was the best a Fighting Hawk has ever placed at the NCAA Midwest Regional in program history. She also picked up USTFCCCA All-Region accolades with that finish.
