GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota Deputy Director of Athletics Erik Martinson has been named to the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Rules Subcommittee, as announced by the NCAA.

Martinson will serve as the representative from the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) on the subcommittee and will work alongside five other voting members from other conferences in Division I men's ice hockey.

"We're thrilled to have Erik representing the NCHC on the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Rules Subcommittee," said NCHC Commissioner Heather Weems. "His expertise, thoughtful approach and forward-thinking perspective will be invaluable as Division I men's hockey takes on a greater role in shaping its own future. This committee's work is essential to ensuring that our rules evolve with the skill, speed and physicality that define today's game and Erik's voice will be an important part of that process."

This newly focused group will report to the Division I Men's Ice Hockey Oversight Committee with the emphasis of creating and maintaining a national standard for rules and enforcement in the game of DI men's ice hockey.

Martinson previously served on the Men's and Women's Ice Hockey Rules Committee from September 2020 through August 2024, serving as the chair in his final year. In that role, he oversaw rule changes across the entire landscape of collegiate ice hockey.
