Box Score OMAHA, Neb. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team saw its winning streak come to an end at five on Friday afternoon, dropping a 6-1 decision at Omaha.
The loss drops the Fighting Hawks to 12-5 overall and to 2-2 in Summit League play, with just two matches remaining against league opponents. The top-4 teams will qualify for the Summit League Women's Tennis Championships in Denver, Colo.
Omaha got off to a strong start, grabbing wins on all three doubles courts to take a 1-0 lead before notching a pair of victories to open singles play to increase the advantage to 3-0.
North Dakota got on the board thanks to
Alyssa Giupponi on the No. 6 court, as the freshman went 7-6, 6-3 to trim the deficit to 3-1, but the Mavericks clinched the win on the No. 4 court before a pair of three-set victories closed out the 6-1 score for the hosts.
UND jumps right back into action tomorrow evening against Creighton beginning at 7 p.m. in Omaha.
