Leo Galliano named Summit League Newcomer of the Year, four others earn all-conference honors

| By:
DENVER, Colo. -- Ahead of the postseason, North Dakota was well represented in the annual Summit League yearly awards, with five student-athletes earning recognition as announced by the league office on Thursday morning.

Freshman Leo Galliano took home one of the biggest honors of the season, earning the Summit League Men's Tennis Newcomer of the Year award. He becomes the third Fighting Hawk on the men's side to earn the recognition, joining Nikita Snezhko (2021-22) and Nejc Sitar (2018-19).

Galliano made an immediate impact in his first season with North Dakota, earning the Newcomer of the Year accolade. The freshman compiled a 4-1 singles record in league play at No. 3, with his only loss coming against Denver. He also contributed in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles and finished the regular season with an impressive 17-3 overall singles record.

He was joined by a pair of teammates on the Men's All-Summit League Team, with Andrew Hayduke II earning an automatic selection for having the best record by a men's Summit League player at his position during league play. The rookie finished a perfect 2-0 in conference action while posting an 11-3 overall mark in singles play to earn his first recognition of his career.

Leandro Zgraggen also earned an all-league selection and was a finalist for the league's top player after going 17-4 in singles action, including a 15-4 mark on the No. 1 court. He was nearly perfect in Summit League action as well, going 4-1 with his lone loss coming in the regular season finale against Denver. Zgraggen rattled off 14 straight wins during the regular season, going over two months without a defeat.

Two Fighting Hawks also earned All-Summit League Honorable Mention accolades, with one coming from each team to give UND a total of five honorees.

Ange-Kevin Koua was selected for the second straight year on the men's side after going 13-6 overall in singles play and a 3-1 mark in Summit League action. The senior has been playing some of his best tennis down the stretch as well, as he enters the postseason riding an eight-match winning streak.

Andrea Pineda also earned honorable mention honors in her first season with the program on the women's side, as the London, England, native jumped right into the No. 1 spot in singles play and finished with a 10-10 mark overall and 3-3 record in conference play. The junior was also strong in doubles action, finishing with 12 victories and a trio of conference triumphs.
