Fighting Hawks add Pitcher Peyton Whitehead to the 2026 Roster

Whitehead joins UND after spending two years at Miles Community College from 2023-2024 and last season at the University of Mary.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota's softball head coach Jordan Stevens announced on Thursday the addition of right-handed pitcher Peyton Whitehead. Whitehead has one year of eligibility remaining.

'We are excited to add Peyton to the team and to our pitching staff," said Stevens. Adding Peyton gives us another arm that will raise the energy and depth of our roster."

A native of Laurel, Mont., Whitehead has three years of collegiate softball experience under her belt, playing two seasons at Miles Community College, before spending last season at the University of Mary.

Whitehead brings strong pitching experience to the Hawks, as the right-hander has totaled 218.1 innings pitched in her three years of college softball, headlined by a 2023 campaign at Miles where she recorded a 3.41 ERA in 21 appearances and 13 starts. She put up an 11-4 record in 92.1 innings, punching out 84 batters, good for 6.37 strikeouts/7 innings.

This past season at UMary, Whitehead made 10 appearances, throwing 16 innings and striking out nine batters. She compiled three outings with multiple strikeouts on Feb. 7 vs. Dickinson State, March 1 vs. Franklin Pierce and March 23 against Wayne State College.

Whitehead recorded a save in her first career outing for the Marauders, throwing a scoreless inning and striking out one batter in a victory over Black Hills State on Jan. 31.
