Fighting Hawks Finish Strong at Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational

TACOMA, Wash. -- The North Dakota women's golf team saved its best round for last Tuesday, firing a 295 to climb one spot and finish 14th at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational at Tacoma Country & Golf Club.

The Fighting Hawks improved each round of the tournament, following scores of 306 and 303 on Monday with Tuesday's 295 to finish with a 54-hole total of 904.

Sophie Cook led North Dakota on the individual leaderboard, tying for 40th with a three-round score of 224 (77-73-74). Cook was particularly strong on the par-3s throughout the tournament, finishing tied for fifth in the field with a 2.92 scoring average at 1-under.

Payton Stocker and Gigi Lund paced UND during Tuesday's final round, each carding a 1-over 73. Stocker finished tied for 47th at 225 (75-77-73), while Lund climbed to a tie for 62nd at 229 (79-77-73). Ella Speidel posted a final-round 75 to finish tied for 59th at 228 (77-76-75), while Mallory Uselman rounded out the lineup at 234 (77-77-80).

North Dakota also found success on the par-5s, finishing tied for sixth in the field with a 4.95 scoring average at 3-under. The Fighting Hawks recorded 29 birdies and 167 pars over the three rounds.

UND finished at 904, two strokes behind 13th-place Idaho and 11 strokes ahead of Utah Valley. CSU Fullerton captured the team title at 857.

The Fighting Hawks will close out the fall portion of their schedule at the Big O Classic, beginning Monday, Oct. 12, at Oak Hills Country Club in Omaha, Nebraska.
