FARGO, N.D. – University of North Dakota track and field kicked of the weekend's Bison Open with seven top-five finishes across four different events on Friday afternoon in Fargo, highlighted by two event wins.
Julia Matthews started off the UND competition hot in the women's weight throw as she topped the podium with her mark of 64-0 1/2 (19.52m) while
Kaylynn Red Tomahawk followed behind in fourth place and a throw of 57-5 (17.50m).
The other event title came on the track for
Nadia Evans, who ran a 25.23 in the women's 200-meter dash to cross the finish line first. She led a trio of top-five finishes for North Dakota as
Ava Phrakonkham came fourth in 25.43 and
Alimath Salou clocked a season-best of 25.67 for fifth place.
In the women's pole vault,
Emily Ash cleared a height of 11-10 (3.61m) for her fourth-place showing while over in the men's weight throw,
Carter Byron also claimed fourth with his throw of 58-4 3/4 (17.80m).
Day two of competition at the Bison Open will resume at 11 a.m. with the remaining multi events before field events kick off at 2 p.m. and track action starts at 2:30 p.m.
