THIBODAUX, La. – North Dakota men's tennis made quick work of its Tuesday afternoon match on the road against Nicholls State and cruised on to a 4-0 victory over the Colonels in the latest installment of the Fighting Hawks' spring break schedule.
The early lead came for UND off duo competition, beginning with
Leo Galliano and
Walker Valentine teamed up for an electric 6-3 showing from the top court.
Justin Ilic and
Kotaro Matsumura followed that up with a strong 6-4 showing of their own to clinch the doubles point and the 1-0 lead. The match at the No. 2 court went unfinished, leaving
Christos Alex and
Darrshan Suresh Kumar locked up at 5-5.
One-on-one action kicked off in dominating fashion as Suresh Kumar slid his way to a stifling 6-0, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 position. Valentine's victory came next in equally-as-fiery style from the bottom spot as he jumped into the driver's seat early and rode off with a 6-0, 6-1.
Ilic clinched the team victory from the No. 3 court as he took a convincing 6-3, 6-4 win for the 4-0 final score.
The remaining three matches went unfinished for North Dakota after the clinching point from Ilic. Galliano held a 6-1, 6-5 advantage at the No. 1 court, Matsumura was ahead 6-2, 4-4 from the fourth spot and, at the No. 5 position, Alex faced a 3-6 4-3 match.
