BOZEMAN, Mont. -- Mallory Uselman etched her name into the North Dakota women's golf record book Monday, firing a program-record 5-under 67 in the opening round of the Yellowstone Intercollegiate at Riverside Country Club.

Uselman followed the record-setting performance with an even-par 72 in the second round to finish the opening day at 5-under 139, holding sole possession of the individual lead heading into Tuesday's final round. She sits four strokes ahead of California Baptist's Shuyi Cao, who is second at 1-under 143.

The record-setting opening round featured seven birdies and an eagle as Uselman surged to the top of the leaderboard. Through 36 holes, she has nine birdies, second most in the field, and was one of only four golfers to record an eagle Monday.

Uselman also leads the field with a 3.90 par-4 scoring average and is tied for second in par-5 scoring average at 4.50.

Behind Uselman's historic day, the Fighting Hawks sit fifth in the 11-team field with a 36-hole score of 602 (299-303). North Dakota is just four strokes behind fourth-place California Baptist and 16 shots behind tournament leader Montana State.

Payton Stocker is the next Fighting Hawk on the leaderboard, sitting tied for 22nd at 7-over 151 following rounds of 76 and 75. Gigi Lund is tied for 37th at 155 (78-77), while Sophie Cook is tied for 44th at 157 (78-79). Ella Speidel rounds out the UND lineup in a tie for 49th at 159 (79-80).

North Dakota's performance was highlighted by its work on the par-4s, as the Fighting Hawks lead the entire field with a 4.19 scoring average through two rounds. UND also recorded 21 birdies, the fourth-most in the tournament.

Uselman will look to finish off the record-setting performance and capture the individual title when the Yellowstone Intercollegiate concludes with Tuesday morning's final round at Riverside Country Club.
