MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Fighting Sioux women’s track & field team earned first place at the Ron Masanz Invitational with 142.50 points. Meanwhile the men’s team finished third overall earning 126 points.

The Fighting Sioux women’s team earned four first place finishes and five second place finishes on the day.

Suzy Homestad earned first place honors in the javelin throw with a throw of 125 feet. Heidi Zander placed third with a throw of 114.07 and teammate Cierra Roebuck earned fourth place with her throw of 113-07.

Danye Guinn threw for 132.04 in the discus throw for first place.

Michelle Burgard earned two second place finishes in the triple jump and the long jump. In the triple jump she jumped for 37-05.25 and in the long jump she jumped for 17-11.50.

Amanda Nagel and Nikki Dahlstrom placed two and three in the high jump with jumps of 5-05.00.

In the 100 meter hurdles Jessica Clausnitzer placed second with a time of 16.05.

Heidi Evans earned first place honors in the 800 meter run with a personal best time of 2:11.16.

In the 1500 meter run the Sioux placed first, second and third. Veronica Sackett placed first with a time of 4:44.16. Rachelle Duerre was second with a time of 4:46.34 and Britt Beeson was third with a time of 4:49.86.

Mandy Gefroh placed second in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 13:25.49.

The Sioux took home the top four places in the javelin throw in the men’s side. Matt Fick placed first with a throw of 193-05. Tyler Stoltz was second with a throw of 191-04. Matt Litzinger was third and Rusty Kjos was fourth.

Josh Haugan placed second in the hammer throw and second in the discus throw. In the hammer throw he threw for 159-01 and in the discus throw he threw for 148-03.

Dave Rygh and Grant Sundquist placed three and four in the triple jump. Rygh jumped for 43-08.75 and teammate Sundquist jumped for 43-04.00.

Tyler Stoltz placed third in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.58. Brandon Yates was close behind with a time of 15.84 placing him fourth.

Corey Hehling placed first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.73.

Zach Green earned third place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.31.

The track & field teams will participate in the NCC conference championship May 12-13 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
