SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Fighting Sioux volleyball team lost for the first time since Sept. 23. The Sioux can't solve Head Coach Katy Peterson's alma mater, Augustana, as they lost to them for the second time of the season. The Sioux lost Friday's match 3-1 (30-22, 31-33, 22-30, and 21-30). UND is now 13-8 overall and 5-3 in the NCC. Augustana improves to 12-11 overall and 6-2 in the NCC.
Offensively, the Sioux had four players in double digits for kills, but as a team the Sioux had 10 more attack errors then their counterparts. Leading the way for the Sioux was senior Heidi Evans (Roseau, Minn.) who finished with 19 kills on the evening. Junior Kendyll Jones (Plymouth, Minn.) finished with 14 kills. Tara Holmen (Jr., Berthold, N.D.) and Aileen Cahill (Sr., Blue Earth, Minn.) had 11 kills and 10 kills, respectively.
On the defensive side of the net, the Sioux were again led by Evans. Evans tied her career high for digs with 27 on the evening. This is the ninth time that Evans has had a double-double in matches this season. Libero Lindsay Vortherms (So., Windom, Minn.) had 21 digs for the Sioux. Cahill had 14 digs on the night, which moves her another step closer to 1,000 career digs. Cahill is only 12 digs away from reaching the coveted mark.
Setter Allison Lowagie (So., Marshall, Minn.) completed the match with 56 set assists.
The Sioux return to action tomorrow night as they travel to Omaha, Neb. to take on the Mavericks of Nebraska Omaha. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
