GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- On senior night, the Fighting Sioux volleyball team was unable to corral the Mavericks of Minnesota State. Minnesota State came out firing on all cylinders and downed the Sioux in three games. Game one was a back and forth match with Minnesota State coming out on top 30-26. Game two was all Mavericks as they went on to win 30-16. After the intermission, UND came out fired up and took an early lead, but the Mavericks were too strong and eventually would win 31-29. UND falls to 14-10 overall and 5-5 in the North Central Conference. Minnesota State improves to 16-11 overall and 6-5 in the NCC.
Offensively the Sioux were led by seniors Heidi Evans (Roseau, Minn.) and Aileen Cahill (Blue Earth, Minn.). Evans finished the match with her 10th double-double of the season as she finished with 15 kills and 16 digs. Cahill had a memorable night as she smashed home her 1,000 career kill half way through the first game of the night. Cahill became the sixth player in Fighting Sioux volleyball history with 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs. Junior Kendyll Jones (Plymouth, Minn.) contributed 12 kills to the Sioux offense.
Defensively the Sioux were led by sophomore libero Lindsay Vortherms (Windom, Minn.). Vortherms had 24 digs on the evening. Sophomore setter Allison Louwagie (Marshall, Minn.) set the way for the Sioux offense all night as she finished with 44 set assists.
