GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The Fighting Sioux volleyball team defeated rival South Dakota 3-1 to keep their four game winning streak alive. UND won game one and two by the score of 34-32 and 30-25, respectively. South Dakota fought back to win game three 26-30 and UND rallied to win game four by the score of 30-24. UND improves to (11-7), (4-2 NCC) and South Dakota falls to (4-16), (0-6 NCC).
Leading the way for the Sioux was senior Heidi Evans (Roseau, Minn.). Evans finished the night with her eighth double-double for the year as she had 15 kills and 17 digs. Senior Tara Holmen (Berthold, N.D.) also had a big night offensively as she tallied 15 kills on the night as well. Freshmen Britta Hanson (Thompson, N.D.) had 11 kills and junior Kendyll Jones (Plymouth, Minn.) finished with 10 kills to add to the Sioux offense.
Defensively the Sioux were led by Lindsay Vortherms (So., Windom, Minn.) who finished with 18 digs. Senior Aileen Cahill (Blue Earth, Minn.) contributed 15 digs to the Sioux defensive effort.
Sophomore Allison Louwagie (Marshall, Minn.) finished another fine performance with 52 set assists. Defensively Louwagie added 11 digs to complete her sixth double-double of the year.
The Sioux return to action on Tuesday against Minnesota-Crookston. The game will be played at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center and game time is set for 7 p.m.
