BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Fighting Sioux volleyball team made the trip to Bemidji worthwhile with a 3-0 win. UND won in a three game match by the scores of 30-23, 30-26 and 30-28. UND improves to (7-6), (1-1) and Bemidji State falls to (6-9), (2-3) on the young 2006 season.
The Sioux defense was paced by sophomore
Lindsay Vortherms (Windom, Minn.) with 11 digs. Helping solidify the defense were seniors
Nicole Delahanty (Apple Valley, Minn.) and
Heidi Evans (Roseau, Minn.) with nine digs apiece. Up front,
Britta Hanson (Fr., Thompson, N.D.) led the Sioux with six block assists and one solo block.
The Sioux offense was led by junior
Tara Holmen (Berthold, N.D.) who finished with 13 kills and a .333 attack percentage.
Kendyll Jones (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) contributed to the Sioux offense with 10 kills. Junior
Mary Blume (Herman, Minn.) chipped in with seven kills but finished with an astonishing .545 attack percentage.
Allison Louwagie (So., Marshall, Minn.) set the way for the Sioux hitters with 33 set assists. Louwagie also contributed to the offense with five kills.
The Sioux return home to host Augustana in their conference home-opener this Friday. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
