GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The Fighting Sioux volleyball team earned a split on the home weekend by defeating South Dakota, 3-1. UND won games one and two by the score of 30-28 in each, and in game three South Dakota fought back and won 31-29. But, the Sioux stormed back to win game four by the score of 30-26. South Dakota drops to (4-12 overall), (0-3 NCC) and UND improves to (8-7 overall), (2-2 NCC).
The Sioux offense was well balanced tonight as four hitters finished with over 10+ kills. Leading the way was freshmen
Britta Hanson (Thompson, N.D.) with 18 kills. Junior
Kendyll Jones (Plymouth, Minn.) and senior
Heidi Evans (Roseau, Minn.) each finished with 14 kills apiece. Also contributing with a big night was senior
Aileen Cahill (Blue Earth, Minn.). Cahill finished with 13 kills on the night.
Allison Louwagie (So., Marshall, Minn.) did a marvelous job setting up the hitters and finished with 57 set assists.
Defensively, the Sioux had another well balanced evening as four players finished in double figures. Leading the way was the combination of Evans and sophomore
Lindsay Vortherms (Windom, Minn.). They each had 19 kills on the evening. Evans completed her fourth double-double of the year. Senior
Nicole Delahanty and Louwagie also finished in double figures in digs as they finished with 16 and 13 digs, respectively. Up Front, Hanson had a monster night. She finished with two solo blocks and four block assists to keep the South Dakota hitters at bay.
The Sioux will return to action Friday at home against Nebraska-Omaha. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
