Sioux volleyball takes down Bemidji State, 3-1

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Fighting Sioux volleyball team ended an eight-game skid tonight against Bemidji State, 3-1. UND started strong by winning game one 30-24. Bemidji State answered back by taking game two, 30-19. After the break, UND responded by taking games three and four, 30-27 and 32-30, respectively. UND improves to 6-19 overall and Bemidji State falls to 9-16 on the season.

Offensively, the Sioux were paced by senior Tara Holmen (Berthold, Minn.). Holmen finished with a team-high 14 kills. Holmen also added seven blocks, three of which were solo blocks in the game. Britta Hanson (So., Thompson, N.D.) and Amanda Polzin (So., Hutchinson, Minn.) finished with 11 kills apiece in the game. Setter Megan Langseth (So., Alexandria, Minn.) finished with her fifth double-double of the season. Langseth tallied 43 set assists and 11 digs in the contest.

Bemidji State's Brittney Burns and Brie Groskreutz finished with a game-high 16 kills apiece in the match.

Freshman Courtney Halvorson (Oklee, Minn.) led the Sioux on defense with 18 digs. Fellow freshman Erin Joki (Grand Rapids, Minn.) contributed with 12 digs in the match for UND.

As a team, North Dakota finished with eight service aces. Polzin led all players with four service aces in the game.

With the victory, UND has now won five straight games over the Beavers.

UND will return to action on Friday at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center against Nebraska Omaha in NCC play. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
