Sioux men fall to CU-Colorado Springs in overtime

ALAMOSA, Colo.?Despite a career-high 26 points from senior guard Ervin Youmans ? including three clutch free throws to send the game into overtime ? the Fighting Sioux were defeated 99-91 by Colorado University -Colorado Springs at the Grizzly Tip-Off to classic.

The loss drops the Fighting Sioux to 0-2 on the young season.

Youmans, a Hobbs, N.M., native, was fouled by UCCS' Nic Fuller on a potential game-tying 3-pointer as regulation time expired, and coolly stepped to the line and nailed all three shots to tie the game at 82-82 and send it into extra time.

The Sioux took the lead on an Emmanuel Little (Sr., Chicago, Ill.) layup early in overtime, but the Mountain Lions stormed back with an 11-2 run that essentially sealed the win.

Four straight free throws by Fuller put UCCS on top 87-84 with 3:12 remaining and the Mountain Lions would lead the rest of the way.

A jumper by UCCS' Leo Thomas made it a 91-86 game with a minute and a half to play, and Fuller stretched the lead to seven with two more free throws. Fuller would add five more points in the game's final 35 seconds to help the Mountain Lions escape with the win.

Youmans, who was named to the all-tournament team, led the Sioux with a career-high 26 points, going 9-for-13 from the field before fouling out of the game.

Four other Sioux hit double figures in scoring, including 18 points from Little, who also grabbed eight rebounds. O.J. Harrison (Jr., Danville, Ill.) scored 13 points, while Derek Benter (Fr., Crosby, N.D.) and Travis Bledsoe (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) each chipped in with 11.

Fuller led all players with 34 points in an impressive 9-for-12 performance. He also went 13-for-14 from the charity stripe.

Both teams shot well from the field, with the Mountain Lions firing at a 54 percent clip and the Sioux at 50 percent. UND shot 92 percent (22-for-24) from the free throw line, and UCCS countered with 87 percent (33-for-38).

UND continues its road swing on Tuesday with a non-conference tilt at Northern State.
